Mangalik (also Manglik) describes a person born with Mangal Dosha — Mars occupying the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house from the Lagna (or sometimes also from the Moon and Venus). Classical texts associate this placement with delay in marriage, marital friction, or harm to the spouse. The degree of concern varies by tradition: some astrologers count only the Lagna chart, others include Chandra and Shukra lagnas. Many modern Vedic astrologers hold that cancellation rules (dosha bhanga) — Mars in its own sign, a friendly sign, or exaltation; aspect from Jupiter; mutual Mangalik partners — significantly mitigate or nullify the dosha.
