A mantra is a sacred linguistic formula — ranging from a single syllable (bija mantra like 'OM') to extended verses — used in spiritual practice. Mantras are understood to be condensed vibrations of the cosmic forces they invoke. In Vedic tradition, mantras carry specific vibratory qualities (shakti) that directly affect consciousness and subtle bodies when repeated with proper pronunciation (shuddha uccharan), intention, and ideally under the guidance of a qualified teacher.
