Overview

> This material describes a traditional astrological indication and is not medical, financial, legal, safety, or other professional advice.

In this tradition of Jyotish, Mars is traditionally associated with pitta, heat, and forceful digestive activity. Its influence is often described as a more intense or potentially disruptive form of pitta than the balanced digestive fire associated with a well-placed Sun. Ketu may suggest a still more aggravated or uncontrolled fire pattern.

A Mars indication should not be treated as a diagnosis. It may be considered only as one symbolic factor within a complete chart assessment.

Condition of Mars

A strong and well-supported Mars may suggest vigorous appetite or strong digestive capacity. An afflicted Mars may instead indicate excessive or poorly regulated pitta. Retrograde Mars, Mars in the eighth or twelfth house, or Mars joined with Rahu or Ketu may be read as increasing the likelihood of pitta imbalance.

When Mars and Saturn both influence the first house, their relative strength may be compared. Mars may suggest greater pitta emphasis, while Saturn may suggest greater vata emphasis. Sun, Mars, and Ketu may also be examined together when assessing the chart's symbolic balance of fire.

Traditional Expressions

Mars-related pitta may be associated with increased appetite, irregular eating, or attraction to fiery foods. It may also be connected symbolically with blood heat and inflammatory tendencies. Some traditional readings associate an adversely placed Mars with skin conditions such as psoriasis, but such an indication cannot establish a medical cause or diagnosis.

At the behavioral level, aggravated pitta may suggest impatience, frequent anger, intolerance of disorder, unnecessary argument, or a tendency to quarrel. These remain possible tendencies rather than fixed traits.

House and Planetary Context

When the Sun and Mars jointly affect the fifth house, their combined pitta influence may suggest agitation in matters associated with affection or romance. Mercury joined with the Sun may also take on a pitta quality, while Ketu's involvement may suggest more difficult regulation of heat.

Traditionally, interpretation depends on planetary strength, placement, aspects, conjunctions, and the broader chart. No single Mars placement should be used to predict health, temperament, diet, or relationship outcomes.
