Scope and caution

In this tradition of Jyotish, planets may be treated as symbolic health karakas connected with doshas, tissues, bodily regions, and physiological functions. These correspondences may support chart interpretation, but they cannot establish a diagnosis or determine treatment.
Planetary correspondences
| Planet | Traditional health indications | |---|---| | Sun | The Sun may signify the whole head or skull. It is traditionally associated with digestive fire, positive pitta, and fever indications. | | Moon | The Moon is traditionally linked with rasa and kapha. Moon-related fever may be read as cold or kapha-oriented, while affliction from Saturn may suggest disturbed kapha patterns such as susceptibility to cold, cough, or allergy-like complaints. | | Mars | Mars is traditionally associated with blood, pitta, and fever. A strong or unafflicted Mars in the first house may suggest a pitta-dominant constitution, while a difficult expression may indicate disturbed pitta. | | Mercury | Mercury may signify tube-like or vibrating structures within the body and is traditionally linked with majja. Its dosha expression may vary, since it can suggest vata, kapha, or pitta and may adopt the tendency of a conjoined planet. | | Jupiter | Jupiter is traditionally associated with kapha and may serve as a karaka for excessive body weight. It is not treated as the primary indicator of digestive fire in this framework. | | Venus | Venus is traditionally connected with a tissue associated with bodily strength. It may also carry emotional correspondences in associations involving the cow, while the cow's milk may be linked with the Moon. | | Saturn | Saturn is traditionally placed in the vata category and may signify the nervous system and skeletal structure. | | Rahu | Rahu is traditionally placed in the vata category and may be considered when examining viral-fever symbolism. | | Ketu | Ketu is traditionally associated with pitta and an extreme intensification of agni. In difficult health contexts, it may indicate operations, surgery, or severe fragmenting trauma. |
Contextual interpretation
Strength and placement
Traditionally, the strongest involved planet may be read as the dominant influence on prakriti. A planet in the first house may carry greater weight, although a difficult planet there may suggest disturbance rather than balance.
Planetary dignity may also modify interpretation. A debilitated planet may continue to suggest a difficult health expression even when cancellation of debilitation is present.
Conjunctions and aspects
A planet's health indication may change through conjunction or aspect. Mercury may take on the dosha tendency of a conjoined planet, while Saturn's influence on the Moon may suggest disturbance of lunar or kapha indications.
Retrogradation and recurrence
A retrograde planet connected with illness is traditionally associated with repetition or recurrence. This symbolism may be considered even when that planet appears favorable by other measures, but it should not be used to anticipate a clinical outcome.
Signs and planetary periods
The sign occupied by a difficult obstructing or death-inflicting planet may be linked with the body region represented by that sign. During the planet's period, that region may be treated as an area requiring interpretive attention rather than as a predicted medical event.
Responsible use
A health judgment should begin by establishing which planet is traditionally associated with the condition under consideration. New or unfamiliar illnesses should not be assigned to a planet without a stated astrological basis. Any health concern should be assessed by an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
