In this tradition of Jyotish, a chart is an astrological framework used to examine planetary placements, signs, houses, and degrees. It may refer to the main birth chart, often called D1, or to divisional charts that are traditionally studied for more specific layers of interpretation.

A chart is treated as a structured way to read indications, not as a stand-alone certainty. Its meaning tends to depend on the chart type, planetary degrees, placement context, and the interpretive method being applied.

Main Uses

Traditionally, the D1 chart is often read for outward conduct, visible presentation, and how a person may deal with the external world. Planetary degrees are also treated as important, especially when calculating or comparing placements in finer divisions such as Navamsha.

Divisional charts are often described as subtler or more internal layers. They may be studied to examine areas that are not easily visible from outer behavior alone. This is why chart interpretation in Jyotish often compares multiple levels rather than relying on only one chart.

Examples of Divisional Chart Meanings

The D10 chart may be used in some techniques alongside D1, depending on the method being applied. The difference is traditionally treated as a matter of viewpoint and interpretive technique.

The D12 chart is associated with ancestral patterns and inherited tendencies. References to inheritance or DNA in this context should be understood as astrological symbolism, not as a scientific genetic claim.

The D16 chart is traditionally associated with luxury, vehicles, jewelry, and comforts. It may suggest whether such comforts are supportive or may become a source of difficulty.

The D27 chart is associated with inner strength, stamina, subconscious patterns, and decision-making tendencies. It may be consulted for indications about analysis, quick decisions, and internal resilience, including how a person may approach significant choices.

The D60 chart is associated with deeper karmic context, past-life themes, and what may be described as a super-conscious level in this tradition.

Interpretive Cautions

A chart is best understood as one part of a broader interpretive system. Traditional readings may suggest tendencies, patterns, or symbolic indications, but they should be handled with care, especially when topics involve health, money, legal matters, safety, ancestry, or psychological experience.

Some divisional charts are treated as especially subtle. Their indications may be difficult to verify externally and may require careful comparison with the broader chart context.
