In this tradition of Jyotish, a Kundli is traditionally understood as an astrological chart used to examine planets, houses, degrees, and related chart divisions. It can suggest how different areas of life are interpreted through planetary condition, house placement, and supporting divisional charts.

Interpretive Use

A Kundli is often treated as the starting point for assessing planetary strength. The strength or weakness of a planet may indicate how clearly its significations can operate in a chart, and this assessment is traditionally considered central to interpretation.

The main chart, often described as D1, is traditionally associated with what becomes visible or expressed outwardly. Divisional charts, or varga kundlis, are often read as deeper or more detailed views of specific life areas. They can be used to clarify, confirm, or refine an interpretation when the main chart alone leaves ambiguity.

Houses, Degrees, and Vargas

Traditionally, the twelve houses of a Kundli are treated as connected with distinct areas of life. Each house may be explored further through a related divisional chart, which can suggest subtler details about that topic and the planets connected with it.

Planetary degrees are also treated as important in chart calculation and interpretation, especially when deriving placements in divisional charts such as Navamsha.

Examples of Divisional Emphasis

Navamsha, or D9, is often read as showing inner nature, feeling, or what is less visible on the surface. D1 may suggest the displayed nature, while D9 can suggest a more internal layer.

Saptamsha, or D7, is traditionally associated with child-related matters, including capacity, obstacles, happiness, and merit connected with children. Such indications should be handled cautiously and not treated as certainty.

Dashamsha, or D10, is traditionally associated with karma and organized assessment of work or action. It may indicate where karma-related themes appear disturbed, supported, or refined.

Caution

A Kundli is not read as a single isolated symbol. Interpretations tend to depend on planetary strength, house context, degrees, divisional support, and the specific significations active in the chart. Traditional indications may suggest tendencies or themes, but they should not be treated as fixed outcomes.
