Scope and caution

In this tradition of Jyotish, Manglik Dosha is primarily examined when the question concerns marriage, compatibility, or a closely related matter. Applying it indiscriminately to unrelated questions may create unnecessary concern.
Primary assessment
Manglik Dosha is assessed in the D1 chart rather than the D9 chart. Mars in the seventh house of D9 alone is therefore not used to classify a person as Manglik within this method.
The assessment considers whether Mars occupies the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house from four reference points:
- Ascendant: 40 percent
- Moon: 20 percent
- Sun: 20 percent
- Venus: 20 percent
The applicable values are added together. A result below 40 percent is not treated as Manglik under this calculation, while 40 percent or more is treated as meeting the method's threshold. Mars conjoined with the Moon may count as Manglik from the Moon reference point.
Interpreting the result
Mars in the designated houses, especially when afflicted or under malefic influence, is traditionally associated with difficulty coordinating desires, activity levels, physical expectations, work, or health-related concerns within marriage. A seventh-house placement may suggest relationship instability or more than one marriage-like attachment, while an eighth-house placement may raise traditional concerns about a spouse's health or longevity. These are interpretive tendencies rather than factual outcomes.
The terms “double Manglik” and “triple Manglik” are not treated as separate classifications in this method. The percentage expresses the combined assessment from the four reference points instead.
Comparing two charts
Traditionally, a Manglik chart is often matched with another Manglik chart. This is treated as a way of comparing relative energy and desire levels rather than as a prediction of marital success.
Equal or similar Manglik strength in both charts may be read as a balancing factor. A higher Manglik percentage is interpreted within this framework as lower available energy, while a lower percentage is interpreted as higher energy. Similar levels may therefore suggest fewer differences in material or relationship expectations.
A proposed cancellation should be considered only in the context of this broader energy comparison. Paap Samya—the idea that corresponding malefic placements automatically balance Mars—is not relied upon here as a practical cancellation rule.
Assessment sequence
- Confirm that the question concerns marriage, compatibility, or a closely related topic.
- Use the D1 chart for the Manglik assessment.
- Check the designated Mars houses from the Ascendant, Moon, Sun, and Venus.
- Add the applicable percentage values.
- Apply the 40-percent threshold.
- Compare the resulting strength across both charts.
- Treat balance or cancellation as one compatibility indication among several, not as a conclusive judgment.
