Scope and caution

In this tradition of Jyotish, marriage delay is assessed through combinations of factors rather than from one placement alone. Any stated age or period is treated as an approximate interpretive indication, not a fixed outcome.
Natal-chart indications
A planet associated with the sixth, eighth, or twelfth house may suggest delay when placed in the seventh house or joined to the seventh lord. The condition of the planet, the seventh lord, and the wider chart may modify this reading.
A strong Saturn positioned one step behind Venus is traditionally associated with postponement and may, in some readings, extend the relevant age toward the mid-thirties. A weak Saturn in the same relationship may be read as offering less resistance.
A combust Atmakaraka can suggest that marriage develops later than an otherwise expected period. Some applications associate this factor with a delay of several years or timing nearer age thirty, but it remains only one part of the assessment.
Upapada Lagna and Navamsha
Malefic contact with the lord of the Upapada Lagna may indicate obstacles or delay. Ketu may suggest withdrawal, objections, or difficulty proceeding; Saturn and Mars may also be associated with postponement.
In the Navamsha, Jupiter joined Ketu in the ascendant can suggest that circumstances are forming while hesitation or obstruction remains. Combustion involving Mars may also be considered when a particular chart shows the marriage matter becoming stalled, although this factor should not be generalized in isolation.
Timing context
Moon and Venus are traditionally associated with affection, relationships, and marriage. Some age-based methods treat approximately 24 to 26 as a reference period, while strong Venus may suggest earlier opportunities or a greater number of proposals. These reference ages do not establish an expected deadline.
Marriage timing is often assessed by combining dasha and transit. A supportive dasha may indicate readiness, while an adverse transit may suggest postponement. Jupiter's transit through a Navamsha angle can strengthen a possible period when the dasha is also supportive; contact from Rahu or Saturn may instead suggest obstruction or slower development.
The seventh lord remains important, but its dasha alone is not necessarily treated as sufficient. Other methods may also examine the third, fifth, ninth, eleventh, and twelfth houses, along with Karakamsa, Dara Karaka, and Upapada Lagna.
Interpreting delay responsibly
Traditionally, the first step is to identify which factor appears most closely associated with the delay and then assess its strength, dignity, relationships, dasha, and transit context. No single placement should be used to declare that marriage is impossible or to assign a certain date. A careful reading treats delay as a conditional tendency that may be strengthened, reduced, or contradicted by the rest of the chart.
