In this tradition of Jyotish, Indu Lagna is used as a focused framework for examining possible wealth patterns. It may suggest how readily income is developed, whether effort plays a prominent role, and which planetary periods may coincide with financial opportunities. It is also applied to possible forms of income, including active earnings, passive income, royalties, and rent.
The assessment is interpretive and does not establish the amount of wealth a person must receive.
Calculation Framework
Indu Lagna uses seven planets and excludes Rahu and Ketu. The Moon has a central role in the method. Each included planet is assigned a traditional kala value:
- Sun: 30
- Moon: 16
- Venus: 12
- Jupiter: 10
- Mercury: 8
- Mars: 6
- Saturn: 1
When constructing the resulting chart, the planets remain in their original signs. If the calculation produces a remainder of zero, the procedure counts twelve places from the Moon, reaching the place immediately before the Moon.

The Indu Lagna Lord
The house occupied by the Indu Lagna lord is traditionally treated as an important indication:
- Placement in the 1st, 5th, or 9th house may suggest an intuitive capacity to find a path toward wealth. It is sometimes associated with greater returns relative to the effort required.
- Placement in the 2nd, 3rd, or 11th house may indicate that earnings develop through initiative and sustained effort.
- Placement in a kendra may suggest that wealth depends more strongly on work, learning an earning method, and repeated practice.
A conjunction involving the Indu Lagna lord may modify these tendencies. Connections with the lords of the 5th or 9th house are often read as supportive, while difficult or inimical combinations may suggest conflict, delay, or obstacles in earning.
Planetary Condition
Planets in their own signs or exaltation are traditionally associated with stronger results in this framework. When such planets occupy a kendra or trikona, or connect with the Indu Lagna, they may indicate stronger wealth potential or multiple possible income sources.
Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, and the Moon are treated as natural benefics for this assessment. A benefic in the first house of the Indu Lagna may suggest supportive financial circumstances. For the Moon to be read this way, its phase strength, dignity, and freedom from difficult influence are also considered. If benefic and malefic planets both influence the first house, mixed results may be indicated.
Mercury, the Sun, and Jupiter receive particular attention. When well placed, they may respectively suggest learning, disciplined effort, and supportive fortune in wealth matters. A strong Sun may also be associated with paternal or ancestral resources.
Timing and Practical Use
Indu Lagna may be considered alongside dasha and antardasha periods to identify times that could correspond with income, opportunity, or financial growth. Traditionally, it is most useful for focused wealth questions rather than as a stand-alone judgment of every area of life.
