Kendra houses (1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th) are the four angular houses of the Vedic birth chart, also called the pillars (sthambha) of the chart. Planets in kendras are considered strongly placed and their results are prominent in the native's life. The kendra lords (rulers of the 1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th houses) become temporary neutrals — even natural malefics placed in kendras can give mixed or improved results compared to other placements. In yoga formations, planets in kendra or trikona (trine) positions form the most powerful combinations.
