1
Om, glory to Mother Lakshmi! O Mother, glory to Lakshmi Mata! Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma (the Triad of creation, preservation, and dissolution) worship you day and night. This opening verse establishes that even the greatest gods constantly offer their reverence to the divine mother.
2
You alone are Uma (Parvati), Rama (Lakshmi herself), and Brahmani (Saraswati) — you are the mother of the entire universe. The sun, the moon, and the sage Narada all meditate upon you and sing your praises. This verse reveals Lakshmi as the supreme feminine principle who encompasses all goddesses.
3
In your form as Durga you are the stainless one (Niranjani), the giver of happiness and wealth. Whoever meditates upon you attains prosperity (Riddhi), spiritual accomplishments (Siddhi), and wealth. This verse identifies Lakshmi with Durga, showing that the Goddess of Fortune and the Goddess of Power are one.
4
You dwell in the nether worlds (Patala) and you alone are the giver of all auspiciousness. You illuminate the fruits of karma and you are the saviour from the ocean of worldly existence (Bhavasagara). This verse speaks of Lakshmi's omnipresence — she permeates all the cosmic realms and can liberate souls from the cycle of rebirth.
5
The home where you dwell is filled with all noble virtues. When you manifest and bless an auspicious task, all sorrow and poverty depart. Devotees believe that inviting Lakshmi into the home through worship, cleanliness, and righteous conduct literally transforms the household's fortune.
6
Without you no yajna (sacred fire ritual) can take place, and none can obtain clothing. All the splendour of food, drink, and material abundance flows from you alone. This verse positions Lakshmi as the essential energy behind every form of material sustenance and sacred ritual — without her grace, even religious ceremonies cannot be performed.
7
You are the beautiful temple of auspicious virtues, the one who arose from the ocean of milk (Kshirodadhi). Without you, none can obtain the fourteen jewels (Ratna Chaturdasha) that emerged during the churning of the cosmic ocean. This verse refers to the creation myth of Samudra Manthan, in which Lakshmi herself emerged from the churned ocean along with divine treasures.
8
Whoever sings this aarti of Mahalakshmi — the great Lakshmi — their heart is filled with bliss and all sins are washed away. This concluding verse is the aarti's own benediction: the act of singing the prayer is itself transformative, purifying the singer's heart and inviting divine grace.
