जय जगजननी जय दुर्गे माँ करो कृपा विस्तार ।
चालीसा यह भक्त रचे करो भव से उद्धार ॥
Glory to Jagajananī, glory to Durgā Mā — shower your grace in abundance! This chalisa is composed in your devotion; deliver us from worldly bondage.

जय जय दुर्गा देवी माता ।
तेरो यश है जगत में ख्याता ॥
नाम तेरो जो जन नित गावे ।
संकट से वह पार पावे ॥
Glory, glory to Durga Devī, our Mother — your fame shines throughout the world. Whoever chants your name daily passes beyond every trial and peril.

तेरो रूप निराला सोहे ।
तीनों लोक जन मन मोहे ॥
गौर वदन शुभ कमल नयन ।
जग-जननी तुम पाप-क्षयन ॥
Your form is uniquely splendid — it captivates the hearts of all three worlds. Fair-faced and lotus-eyed, O Mother of the World, you dissolve sin.

तेरे हाथ अस्त्र अनेका ।
त्रिशूल खड्ग चक्र विवेका ॥
अष्टभुजा शक्ति की खान ।
महादेवी तू महाप्रधान ॥
In your many hands you hold countless weapons — trident, sword, and discus among them. Eight-armed, a treasury of cosmic power — you are the supreme Mahādevi.

सिंह वाहन तेरो शोभित ।
शत्रु देखि मन अति क्षोभित ॥
दुर्गा नाम सुन काँपत पापी ।
तेरो शासन जगत व्यापी ॥
Your lion mount is resplendent — the enemy's heart trembles at the sight. At the mere sound of the name Durga, sinners quake; your dominion pervades the world.

त्रिनेत्री तू भवानी माता ।
तेरी दृष्टि भाग्य विधाता ॥
एक दृष्टि से बिगड़े काम ।
दूजी दृष्टि से मिले आराम ॥
Three-eyed Bhavani, O Mother — your glance decides the fate of beings. One glance can overturn what is built; another brings comfort and peace.

नव-दुर्गा के नौ स्वरूप ।
सब में तेरे दिव्य अनूप ॥
शैलपुत्री ब्रह्मचारिणी ।
चन्द्रघण्टा शुभ प्राणधारिणी ॥
The nine forms of Navadurga — in all of them your divine incomparable nature shines: Shailputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta the auspicious life-sustaining Devi.

कूष्माण्डा स्कन्दमाता ।
कात्यायनी कालरात्रि माता ॥
महागौरी सिद्धिदात्री ।
नव रूपन की तू विधात्री ॥
Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalaratri — Mahagauri and Siddhidatri: you are the sovereign creator behind all nine forms.

देवन ने मिलि तेज समाना ।
एक महाशक्ति अति महाना ॥
सिंह पर चढ़ि असुर संहारे ।
देवन के संकट सब टारे ॥
The gods merged their combined radiance into one supreme power — immeasurable, magnificent. Mounted on her lion, she slaughtered the demons and removed every affliction that had beset the gods.

महिषासुर अति दुष्ट अभिमानी ।
त्रिभुवन व्यापी उसकी मनमानी ॥
देवी ने रण माँहि पछारा ।
त्रिशूल मारि उसे संहारा ॥
Mahishasura was exceedingly wicked and arrogant, his willfulness spreading across all three worlds. The Goddess hurled him down on the battlefield and slew him with her trident.

महिषासुर-वध करि माता ।
देवन की मिटी विपत्ति त्राता ॥
सुर-गण तब आनन्द मनाये ।
जय जय जय के नाद उठाये ॥
Having slain Mahishasura, O Mother and Protector, you erased the gods' calamity. The host of gods then celebrated in joy, raising the triumphant cry of 'Victory! Victory! Victory!'

शुम्भ-निशुम्भ दो दानव भारी ।
इन्द्र लोक पर किया अधिकारी ॥
देवन ने फिर तुमको ध्याया ।
कात्यायन आश्रम में आया ॥
The two mighty demons Shumbha and Nishumbha seized dominion over Indra's realm. The gods again meditated on you, and you appeared at the hermitage of sage Katyayana.

धूम्रलोचन चण्ड-मुण्ड आये ।
देवी सम्मुख मरण पाये ॥
चण्डिका रूप धरा माता ।
कटी दोनों की गर्व-त्राता ॥
Dhumralochana and then Chanda-Munda came forward — and met their deaths before the Goddess. The Mother took on the form of Chandika, the fierce one who slashed the pride of both generals.

रक्तबीज असुर अति दानी ।
रक्त गिरे उससे बन जानी ॥
काली रूप धरा महाकाली ।
रक्त पिया मुख फैला काली ॥
The demon Raktabija had a terrible boon — wherever his blood fell, a new demon sprang up. The Goddess took the form of Mahakali, whose vast mouth consumed every drop of blood, ending the curse.

शुम्भ मारा रण में माता ।
निशुम्भ भी मुआ जग-त्राता ॥
देव-लोक फिर निर्भय सारे ।
स्वर्गाधिपति बने इन्द्र प्यारे ॥
Shumbha was slain in battle, O Mother, and Nishumbha too fell dead, O Protector of the world. All the heavenly realms became fearless once more, and beloved Indra was restored to lordship of heaven.

भक्त पुकारे जब जब माता ।
तुम आई हो बन जग-त्राता ॥
सती उमा पार्वती भवानी ।
तुम ही एक रूप अनुमानी ॥
Whenever devotees have called out to you, O Mother, you have come, becoming the Protector of the world. Sati, Uma, Parvati, Bhavani — these are all one form of yours, as wisdom discerns.

शैल-पुत्री वृषभ पर आई ।
चन्द्र-मुकुट मस्तक सोहाई ॥
ब्रह्मचारिणी जप-माला धारी ।
तप की देवी जन-हितकारी ॥
Shailputri comes mounted on a bull, the crescent moon crown adorning her brow. Brahmacharini carries the rosary of japa — the goddess of austerity, a benefactor of all people.

चन्द्रघण्टा घण्टा बजाती ।
असुरन को भय अति दिखाती ॥
कूष्माण्डा अष्टभुजाधारी ।
सूर्य-मण्डल में विहारी ॥
Chandraghanta rings her bell, striking great terror into the demons. Kushmanda, bearer of eight arms, roams freely within the solar orb.

स्कन्दमाता कार्तिक की माता ।
कमल-आसन शोभित भ्राता ॥
कात्यायनी रण-रंग रंगीली ।
शत्रु-दमन में सदा अखेली ॥
Skandamata is the mother of Kartika, her lotus seat radiant with splendour. Katyayani is vivid in the hues of battle, ever unmatched in subduing enemies.

कालरात्रि घोर रूप धारी ।
काल भी डरे जिसकी भारी ॥
महागौरी श्वेत वस्त्र पहने ।
सिद्धि-दात्री भक्त मन-गहने ॥
Kalaratri bears a terrifying form before which even Death trembles in dread. Mahagauri is clothed in white, and Siddhidatri is the jewel of every devotee's heart.

नव-दुर्गा नव-दिन की पूजा ।
नवरात्रि में होती दूजा ॥
जो करे व्रत नियम से माता ।
पाए सुख-धन-मान विधाता ॥
The nine forms of Durga are worshipped across the nine days of Navratri, each day distinct. O Mother, Bestower of all, whoever keeps the fast with discipline gains happiness, wealth, and honour.

दुर्गा सप्तशती जो पढ़े भाई ।
दूर होय विपत्ति सब माई ॥
श्रद्धा-भक्ति से करे पाठ जो ।
पाए मनोवाँछित फल नित हो ॥
Whoever recites the Durga Saptashati, O Mother, sees all adversities removed. Whoever reads it with faith and devotion obtains the fruit of every heart's desire, each and every day.

विन्ध्य-वासिनी विन्ध्य-निवासी ।
काशी में बिराजे काशी-वासी ॥
ज्वाला देवी माँ ज्वाला माँ ।
सती-पीठ पर विराजी रमा ॥
You dwell in the Vindhya hills as Vindhyavasini; in Kashi you reside as the presiding deity of the holy city. As Jwala Devi you are the Flame Mother, enthroned at the Shakti Pitha of Sati.

वैष्णो-देवी पर्वत-रानी ।
त्रिकुटा-वासिनी गुण-खानी ॥
कामाख्या कामरूप-विहारी ।
तारा-देवी तारण-हारी ॥
Vaishno Devi is queen of the mountains, dwelling in the Trikuta range — a mine of virtues. Kamakhya roams in Kamarupa, and Tara Devi is the one who ferries us across the ocean of existence.

चामुण्डा चण्डी रूप धारी ।
करती पापी-दल संहारी ॥
भैरवी भीम शब्द करती ।
त्रिभुवन-त्रास-दायिनी फिरती ॥
As Chamunda taking the form of Chandi, she annihilates the armies of the wicked. As Bhairavi she utters a terrible roar, roaming as the terror of all three worlds.

अन्नपूर्णा अन्न-दात्री माँ ।
भोजन दे सबको दाता माँ ॥
लक्ष्मी धन-सम्पदा की दाती ।
सरस्वती विद्या-ज्ञान जगाती ॥
Annapurna, O Mother, is the giver of food — the great benefactor who nourishes all beings. Lakshmi bestows wealth and prosperity; Saraswati awakens knowledge and learning.

तुम ही आदि-शक्ति संसारी ।
तुम ही माया जग-विस्तारी ॥
प्रकृति तुम ही पुरुष के संगे ।
सृष्टि चले तुम्हारे ढंगे ॥
You alone are the primordial Shakti of this world; you alone are the Maya that spreads the universe wide. You are Prakriti alongside Purusha — creation moves entirely by your design.

ब्रह्मा विष्णु महेश तुम्हारे ।
त्रिगुण-मूल तुम ही प्यारे ॥
सृष्टि पालन संहार सब तेरा ।
जीव-जगत में तेरा डेरा ॥
Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh all serve you; you, beloved one, are the root of the three gunas. Creation, preservation, and dissolution are all yours — your dwelling pervades every living being and world.

जो कोई तुमको ध्यान लगाये ।
मनवाँछित सब सुख-फल पाये ॥
बीमार हो तो जल्दी नीका ।
जो दुखिया पाए सुख नीका ॥
Whoever fixes their mind in meditation on you obtains all the happiness and fruits their heart desires. The sick are quickly restored to health; the sorrowful attain lasting comfort.

अन्धे को माँ आँखें देती ।
निर्धन को धन-माला देती ॥
निःसन्तान को पुत्र मिलाती ।
सब की मनोकामना पूरी होती ॥
O Mother, you give sight to the blind and bestow garlands of wealth upon the destitute. You grant sons to the childless, and every heart's deepest longing is fulfilled by your grace.

जो शरण में तेरी आता ।
उसको कोई दुःख न सताता ॥
दास की लाज रखो माता ।
तुम हो सर्वस्व सुख-दाता ॥
Whoever takes refuge in you is troubled by no sorrow. O Mother, protect the honour of your servant — you are the all, the very giver of happiness.

जय अम्बे जय जगदम्बे माता ।
तेरा यश सब जग में विख्याता ॥
भक्त पुकारें जब-जब माई ।
दौड़ी आई तुमने सहाई ॥
Victory to Amba, victory to Jagadamba, O Mother — your glory is celebrated throughout the entire world. Whenever devotees have called out to you, O Eternal Mother, you ran to their aid.

शत्रु मारो शत्रु भगाओ ।
भक्त के मन में शान्ति बसाओ ॥
माँगे सो पाएँ तेरे द्वारे ।
कोई न जाए रीते तुम्हारे ॥
Slay the enemy, drive away the enemy, and settle peace in the devotee's heart. Whatever is asked for at your door is received — no one leaves your presence empty-handed.

रोग-शोक दूर कर माई ।
माता तेरी बड़ी कमाई ॥
संकट-हरणी सुख-दायिनी ।
भव-सागर की नौका-नायिनी ॥
Remove illness and grief, O Eternal Mother — great is your store of blessings. You are the remover of hardship, the giver of joy, the helmsman of the boat crossing the ocean of existence.

पाप-ताप सब दूर भगाओ ।
मुक्ति-पद हमको दिलाओ ॥
जनम-मरण के फेर मिटाओ ।
निज-चरणों की भक्ति बताओ ॥
Drive away all sin and suffering; grant us the state of liberation. Erase the cycle of birth and death, and reveal to us the devotion that rests at your very feet.

जो यह चालीसा पढ़े नित माता ।
सो पाए मनचाहा फल विधाता ॥
श्रद्धा-भक्ति से जो गाये ।
देवी कृपा उस पर बरसाये ॥
Whoever recites this Chalisa daily, O Mother — O Bestower of all — obtains every fruit the heart desires. Upon whoever sings it with faith and devotion, the Goddess pours her grace.

मंगल-वार शुक्रवार को माता ।
पाठ करे जो सुख का दाता ॥
विघ्न-बाधा सब दूर हो जावे ।
घर में सुख-शान्ति-धन आवे ॥
O Mother, whoever recites this on Tuesday and Friday — the days of auspicious giving — sees all obstacles and hindrances vanish, and happiness, peace, and prosperity enter the home.

नवरात्रि में पाठ करे जो भाई ।
पाए अपने मन की मनचाही ॥
दुर्गा-पूजा में गाएँ सब लोग ।
दूर हो जाएँ जग के सब रोग ॥
Whoever recites this during Navratri obtains the heart's deepest wish. When all people sing it during Durga Puja, every affliction of the world is removed.

जो सेवक माता का दासा ।
पूरी करती उसकी आसा ॥
भक्त अटल विश्वास रखे जो ।
माँ के प्यारे बन जाते वो ॥
The servant who is devoted as the Mother's own — she fulfils every hope of theirs. Whoever the devotee holds with unshakeable faith becomes beloved to the Mother.

दुर्गा माँ की महिमा न्यारी ।
जग में सबसे ऊँची भारी ॥
गाएँ ध्यावें करें सब पूजा ।
दूजा कोई देव नहीं दूजा ॥
The glory of Mother Durga is unique and unmatched — the highest and greatest in all the world. Let all sing, meditate, and offer worship to her; there is no other deity second to her.

सुमिरन करे जो नित उठ माता ।
चालीसा का दोहराए दाता ॥
भवन में माँ की जोत जलाएँ ।
जन्म-जन्म का तम मिट जाएँ ॥
O Mother, O Bestower, whoever rises each day in remembrance and repeats this Chalisa — and kindles the Mother's lamp in their home — sees the darkness of birth after birth extinguished.

दुर्गा माँ की चालीसा, गावें भक्त सुजान ।
सब विपत्ति से रक्षा करें, माता हमारी जान ॥
