ततो युद्धपरिश्रान्तं समरे चिन्तया स्थितम्।
रावणं चाग्रतो दृष्ट्वा युद्धाय समुपस्थितम्॥
रावणं चाग्रतो दृष्ट्वा युद्धाय समुपस्थितम्॥
Then, seeing Rama exhausted from battle and standing absorbed in deep thought in the midst of the war, and seeing Ravana stationed before him ready for combat —

दैवतैश्च समागम्य द्रष्टुमभ्यागतो रणम्।
उपागम्याब्रवीद्रामम् अगस्त्यो भगवान् ऋषिः॥
उपागम्याब्रवीद्रामम् अगस्त्यो भगवान् ऋषिः॥
The divine sage Agastya, who had come along with the gods to witness the battle, approached Rama and spoke these words.

राम राम महाबाहो शृणु गुह्यं सनातनम्।
येन सर्वानरीन् वत्स समरे विजयिष्यसि॥
येन सर्वानरीन् वत्स समरे विजयिष्यसि॥
O Rama, O Rama, O mighty-armed one! Hear this eternal secret. By this, O dear one, you shall conquer all your enemies in battle.

आदित्यहृदयं पुण्यं सर्वशत्रुविनाशनम्।
जयावहं जपेन्नित्यम् अक्षय्यं परमं शिवम्॥
जयावहं जपेन्नित्यम् अक्षय्यं परमं शिवम्॥
This Aditya Hridayam is sacred, the destroyer of all enemies, the bestower of victory. One should chant it daily — it is imperishable and supremely auspicious.

सर्वमङ्गलमाङ्गल्यं सर्वपापप्रणाशनम्।
चिन्ताशोकप्रशमनम् आयुर्वर्धनमुत्तमम्॥
चिन्ताशोकप्रशमनम् आयुर्वर्धनमुत्तमम्॥
It is the most auspicious of all auspicious things, the destroyer of all sins. It calms anxiety and grief, and is the supreme increaser of lifespan.

रश्मिमन्तं समुद्यन्तं देवासुरनमस्कृतम्।
पूजयस्व विवस्वन्तं भास्करं भुवनेश्वरम्॥
पूजयस्व विवस्वन्तं भास्करं भुवनेश्वरम्॥
Worship Vivasvan, the radiant one who is rising, who is saluted by both gods and demons — Bhaskara, the lord of all worlds.

सर्वदेवात्मको ह्येष तेजस्वी रश्मिभावनः।
एष देवासुरगणान् लोकान् पाति गभस्तिभिः॥
एष देवासुरगणान् लोकान् पाति गभस्तिभिः॥
He is truly the soul of all gods, radiant and the nourisher through his rays. He protects all the worlds — the hosts of gods and demons alike — with his radiant beams.

एष ब्रह्मा च विष्णुश्च शिवः स्कन्दः प्रजापतिः।
महेन्द्रो धनदः कालो यमः सोमो ह्यपां पतिः॥
महेन्द्रो धनदः कालो यमः सोमो ह्यपां पतिः॥
He is Brahma, and He is Vishnu; He is Shiva, Skanda, and Prajapati. He is Mahendra (Indra), Kubera (lord of wealth), Time itself, Yama (lord of death), Soma (the Moon), and the lord of waters.

पितरो वसवः साध्या ह्यश्विनौ मरुतो मनुः।
वायुर्वह्निः प्रजाप्राण ऋतुकर्ता प्रभाकरः॥
वायुर्वह्निः प्रजाप्राण ऋतुकर्ता प्रभाकरः॥
He is the Pitrs (ancestral spirits), the Vasus, the Sadhyas, the twin Ashvins, the Maruts, and Manu. He is Wind, Fire, the very life-breath of all beings, the maker of seasons, and the light-maker (Prabhakara).

आदित्यः सविता सूर्यः खगः पूषा गभस्तिमान्।
सुवर्णसदृशो भानुर्हिरण्यरेता दिवाकरः॥
सुवर्णसदृशो भानुर्हिरण्यरेता दिवाकरः॥
He is Aditya (son of Aditi), Savita (the vivifier), Surya (the sun), Khaga (sky-traveller), Pusha (the nourisher), Gabhastiman (the radiant). He resembles gold in hue — he is Bhanu, Hiranyareta (golden-seeded), and Divakarah (the day-maker).

हरिदश्वः सहस्रार्चिः सप्तसप्तिर्मरीचिमान्।
तिमिरोन्मथनः शम्भुस्त्वष्टा मार्तण्ड अंशुमान्॥
तिमिरोन्मथनः शम्भुस्त्वष्टा मार्तण्ड अंशुमान्॥
He has green (golden) horses (Haridashva), a thousand rays (Sahasrarchi), seven horses (Saptasapti), and is full of light-rays (Marichiman). He is the destroyer of darkness (Timironmathana), Shambhu, the Fashioner (Tvashta), born of the cosmic egg (Martanda), and the radiant one (Ansuman).

हिरण्यगर्भः शिशिरस्तपनो भास्करो रविः।
अग्निगर्भोऽदितेः पुत्रः शङ्खः शिशिरनाशनः॥
अग्निगर्भोऽदितेः पुत्रः शङ्खः शिशिरनाशनः॥
He is the Golden Womb (Hiranyagarbha), the cool one (Shishira), the Heater (Tapana), the Light-Maker (Bhaskara), and Ravi. He bears fire in his womb (Agnigarbha), is the son of Aditi, is the Conch (Shankha), and the destroyer of cold (Shishiranashana).

व्योमनाथस्तमोभेदी ऋग्यजुःसामपारगः।
घनवृष्टिरपां मित्रो विन्ध्यवीथीप्लवङ्गमः॥
घनवृष्टिरपां मित्रो विन्ध्यवीथीप्लवङ्गमः॥
He is the lord of the sky (Vyomanatha), the piercer of darkness (Tamobhedi), and the master who has crossed beyond the Rig, Yajur, and Sama Vedas. He is the giver of heavy rains, friend of the waters (Apam Mitra), and the traverser of the Vindhya mountain path.

आतपी मण्डली मृत्युः पिङ्गलः सर्वतापनः।
कविर्विश्वो महातेजाः रक्तः सर्वभवोद्भवः॥
कविर्विश्वो महातेजाः रक्तः सर्वभवोद्भवः॥
He is the scorching one (Atapi), the disc-formed (Mandali), Death (Mrtyuh), the tawny one (Pingala), the heater of all (Sarvatapana). He is the Poet (Kavi), the All-pervading (Vishva), the greatly radiant (Mahatejah), the red one (Rakta), and the source of all existence (Sarvabhavodbhava).

नक्षत्रग्रहताराणाम् अधिपो विश्वभावनः।
तेजसामपि तेजस्वी द्वादशात्मन् नमोऽस्तु ते॥
तेजसामपि तेजस्वी द्वादशात्मन् नमोऽस्तु ते॥
He is the lord of stars, planets, and constellations, and the nourisher of the universe. He is the most radiant among all radiant beings. O twelve-souled one (Dvadashatman), salutations to you!

नमः पूर्वाय गिरये पश्चिमायाद्रये नमः।
ज्योतिर्गणानां पतये दिनाधिपतये नमः॥
ज्योतिर्गणानां पतये दिनाधिपतये नमः॥
Salutations to the eastern mountain (the mountain of sunrise), salutations to the western mountain (the mountain of sunset). Salutations to the lord of all luminaries, salutations to the lord of the day.

जयाय जयभद्राय हर्यश्वाय नमो नमः।
नमो नमः सहस्रांशो आदित्याय नमो नमः॥
नमो नमः सहस्रांशो आदित्याय नमो नमः॥
Salutations again and again to the one who grants Victory, to the one who is Auspicious Victory, to the one with golden-green horses. Salutations again and again to the thousand-rayed Aditya, salutations again and again.

नम उग्राय वीराय सारङ्गाय नमो नमः।
नमः पद्मप्रबोधाय मार्तण्डाय नमो नमः॥
नमः पद्मप्रबोधाय मार्तण्डाय नमो नमः॥
Salutations to the fierce one, to the heroic one, to the variegated one (Saranga). Salutations again and again to the awakener of lotuses, salutations to Martanda.

ब्रह्मेशानाच्युतेशाय सूर्यायादित्यवर्चसे।
भास्वते सर्वभक्षाय रौद्राय वपुषे नमः॥
भास्वते सर्वभक्षाय रौद्राय वपुषे नमः॥
Salutations to the lord of Brahma, Ishana (Shiva), and Achyuta (Vishnu), to Surya whose splendour is that of Aditya. Salutations to the luminous one, the all-devouring one, and the terrible form.

तमोघ्नाय हिमघ्नाय शत्रुघ्नायामितात्मने।
कृतघ्नघ्नाय देवाय ज्योतिषां पतये नमः॥
कृतघ्नघ्नाय देवाय ज्योतिषां पतये नमः॥
Salutations to the destroyer of darkness, to the destroyer of cold, to the destroyer of enemies, to the limitless in self. Salutations to the destroyer of the ungrateful, to the divine one, to the lord of all luminaries.
21
तप्तचामीकराभाय हरये विश्वकर्मणे।
नमस्तमोऽभिनिघ्नाय रुचये लोकसाक्षिणे॥
नमस्तमोऽभिनिघ्नाय रुचये लोकसाक्षिणे॥
Salutations to the one who shines like molten gold, to Hari, to the cosmic craftsman (Vishvakarma). Salutations to the destroyer of darkness, to the brilliant one, to the witness of all the worlds.
22
नाशयत्येष वै भूतं तदेव सृजति प्रभुः।
पायत्येष तपत्येष वर्षत्येष गभस्तिभिः॥
पायत्येष तपत्येष वर्षत्येष गभस्तिभिः॥
This lord indeed destroys the beings and then creates those very beings again. He nourishes, he scorches, and he causes rain through his rays.
23
एष सुप्तेषु जागर्ति भूतेषु परिनिष्ठितः।
एष एवाग्निहोत्रं च फलं चैवाग्निहोत्रिणाम्॥
एष एवाग्निहोत्रं च फलं चैवाग्निहोत्रिणाम्॥
He remains ever awake even when the beings sleep, being firmly established within those very beings. He alone is the Agnihotra sacrifice and is the fruit (reward) of those who perform the Agnihotra.
24
वेदाश्च क्रतवश्चैव क्रतूनां फलमेव च।
यानि कृत्यानि लोकेषु सर्व एष रविः प्रभुः॥
यानि कृत्यानि लोकेषु सर्व एष रविः प्रभुः॥
He is the Vedas, he is the sacrifices, and he is also the fruit of those sacrifices. Whatever actions are performed in all the worlds — in all of that, this Ravi (Sun) is the lord.
25
एनमापत्सु कृच्छ्रेषु कान्तारेषु भयेषु च।
कीर्तयन् पुरुषः कश्चिन्नावसीदति राघव॥
कीर्तयन् पुरुषः कश्चिन्नावसीदति राघव॥
O Raghava! Any person who glorifies this (Sun) in times of calamity, hardship, in forests, or in situations of fear — that person is never overcome by despair.
26
पूजयस्वैनमेकाग्रो देवदेवं जगत्पतिम्।
एतत् त्रिगुणितं जप्त्वा युद्धेषु विजयिष्यसि॥
एतत् त्रिगुणितं जप्त्वा युद्धेषु विजयिष्यसि॥
Worship this god of gods, the lord of the universe, with single-pointed devotion. Having chanted this thrice, you shall be victorious in all battles.
27
अस्मिन् क्षणे महाबाहो रावणं त्वं वधिष्यसि।
एवमुक्त्वा ततोऽगस्त्यो जगाम च यथागतम्॥
एवमुक्त्वा ततोऽगस्त्यो जगाम च यथागतम्॥
O mighty-armed one! At this very moment you shall slay Ravana. Having said this, Agastya departed the way he had come.
28
एतच्छ्रुत्वा महातेजाः नष्टशोकोऽभवत्तदा।
धारयामास सुप्रीतो राघवः प्रयतात्मवान्॥
धारयामास सुप्रीतो राघवः प्रयतात्मवान्॥
Having heard this, the greatly radiant Rama became free from sorrow at that very moment. The delighted Raghava, with a controlled and pure mind, committed it to his memory.
29
आदित्यं प्रेक्ष्य जप्त्वा तु परं हर्षमवाप्तवान्।
त्रिराचम्य शुचिर्भूत्वा धनुरादाय वीर्यवान्॥
त्रिराचम्य शुचिर्भूत्वा धनुरादाय वीर्यवान्॥
Gazing at the Sun and chanting this hymn, he attained supreme joy. Having sipped water thrice for purification, that valiant one took up his bow.
30
रावणं प्रेक्ष्य हृष्टात्मा युद्धाय समुपागमत्।
सर्वयत्नेन महता वधे तस्य धृतोऽभवत्॥
सर्वयत्नेन महता वधे तस्य धृतोऽभवत्॥
Seeing Ravana with a joyful heart, he advanced for battle. With supreme and complete effort, he became resolute in slaying him.
31
अथ रविरवदन्निरीक्ष्य रामं मुदितमनाः परमं प्रहृष्यमाणः।
निशिचरपतिसंक्षयं विदित्वा सुरगणमध्यगतो वचस्त्वरेति॥
निशिचरपतिसंक्षयं विदित्वा सुरगणमध्यगतो वचस्त्वरेति॥
Then the Sun God, gazing at Rama with a delighted and supremely joyful mind, knowing that the destruction of the lord of the night-wanderers (Ravana) was at hand, spoke from amidst the assembly of gods: 'Make haste!'
