नवग्रह स्तोत्रम् Navagraha Stotram

The Navagraha Stotram is one of the most universally recited prayers in the Vedic astrological tradition, comprising nine short verses — one for each of the nine planetary deities. The nine grahas —

जपाकुसुम-संकाशं काश्यपेयं महाद्युतिम् ।
तमोऽरिं सर्वपापघ्नं प्रणतोऽस्मि दिवाकरम् ॥
Radiant as the hibiscus flower, offspring of the sage Kashyapa, blazing with immeasurable light — the Sun is the enemy of darkness and the destroyer of all sins. To this Divakara, the day-maker, I bow in reverence.

दधिशंख-तुषाराभं क्षीरोदार्णव-संभवम् ।
नमामि शशिनं सोमं शंभोर्मुकुट-भूषणम् ॥
White as curd, as the conch shell, as winter frost — the Moon arose from the great ocean of milk and adorns the crown of Shiva. To this Shashina and Soma, I bow.

धरणी-गर्भ-संभूतं विद्युत्-कान्ति-समप्रभम् ।
कुमारं शक्ति-हस्तं च मंगलं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥
Born from the womb of Earth, blazing with the radiance of lightning, the youthful Mars holds his spear in hand. To this Mangala, I bow with folded palms.

प्रियंगु-कलिकाश्यामं रूपेण प्रतिमं बुधम् ।
सौम्यं सौम्य-गुणोपेतं तं बुधं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥
Dark as the priyamgu blossom, matchless in beauty, gentle-natured and endowed with all gentle qualities — to this Mercury, the wise planet, I bow.

देवानां च ऋषीणां च गुरुं कांचन-संनिभम् ।
बुद्धि-भूतं त्रिलोकेशं तं नमामि बृहस्पतिम् ॥
Golden-hued preceptor of both gods and sages, the embodiment of wisdom, lord of the three worlds — to Brihaspati, the great teacher, I bow.

हिम-कुंद-मृणालाभं दैत्यानां परमं गुरुम् ।
सर्व-शास्त्र-प्रवक्तारं भार्गवं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥
White as snow, jasmine, and the tender lotus stalk, the supreme preceptor of the asuras and the expounder of all sacred knowledge — to Bhargava (Venus), I bow.

नीलांजन-समाभासं रवि-पुत्रं यमाग्रजम् ।
छाया-मार्तण्ड-संभूतं तं नमामि शनैश्चरम् ॥
Gleaming like dark blue collyrium, son of Surya and elder brother of Yama, born of Chhaya and Marthanda — to slow-moving Saturn (Shanaishchara), I bow.

अर्धकायं महावीर्यं चन्द्रादित्य-विमर्दनम् ।
सिंहिकागर्भ-संभूतं तं राहुं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥
Half-bodied, supremely powerful, the tormenter of Sun and Moon — born from the womb of Simhika. To this Rahu I bow with reverence.

पलाश-पुष्प-संकाशं तारकाग्रह-मस्तकम् ।
रौद्रं रौद्रात्मकं घोरं तं केतुं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥
Resembling the palasha flower in hue, the foremost among stars and planets, fierce and of awesome nature — to this Ketu, I bow.
