ध्यायेद् आजानुबाहुं धृतशरधनुषं बद्धपद्मासनस्थं पीतं वासो वसानं नवकमलदलस्पर्धिनेत्रं प्रसन्नम् ।
वामाङ्कारूढसीतामुखकमलमिलल्लोचनं नीरदाभं नानालङ्कारदीप्तं दधतमुरुजटामण्डलं रामचन्द्रम् ॥
Meditate on Ramachandra: arms extending to his knees, holding bow and arrow, seated in bound lotus posture; wearing yellow silk, with eyes that rival the petals of a freshly blossomed lotus, his countenance serene. Sita's lotus face rests on his left knee and meets his gaze; his complexion is the dark lustre of a rain cloud, adorned with varied ornaments and crowned with the great coil of matted locks.

चरितं रघुनाथस्य शतकोटिप्रविस्तरम् ।
एकैकमक्षरं पुंसां महापातकनाशनम् ॥
The story of Raghunatha spans a hundred crore verses in its full extent. Yet each single syllable of it destroys the great sins of those who hear or recite it.

ध्यात्वा नीलोत्पलश्यामं रामं राजीवलोचनम् ।
जानकीलक्ष्मणोपेतं जटामुकुटमण्डितम् ॥
Having meditated on Rama — dark as the blue lotus, with lotus-like eyes, accompanied by Janaki and Lakshmana, crowned with a diadem of matted locks —

सासितूणधनुर्बाणपाणिं नक्तञ्चरान्तकम् ।
स्वलीलया जगत्त्रातुमाविर्भूतमजं विभुम् ॥
— with quiver, bow, and arrows in hand, the destroyer of the night-wandering demons; the unborn, all-pervading one who appeared of his own sport to protect the world —

रामरक्षां पठेत् प्राज्ञः पापघ्नीं सर्वकामदाम् ।
शिरो मे राघवः पातु भालं दशरथात्मजः ॥
Let the wise person recite the Ram Raksha — destroyer of sins, fulfiller of all desires. May Raghava protect my head; may the son of Dasharatha protect my brow.

कौसल्येयो दृशौ पातु विश्वामित्रप्रियः श्रुती ।
घ्राणं पातु मखत्राता मुखं सौमित्रिवत्सलः ॥
May Kaushalya's son protect my two eyes; may Vishvamitra's beloved protect my ears. May the protector of the sacrifice guard my nose; may he who loves Lakshmana protect my mouth.

जिह्वां विद्यानिधिः पातु कण्ठं भरतवन्दितः ।
स्कन्धौ दिव्यायुधः पातु भुजौ भग्नेशकार्मुकः ॥
May the treasure of wisdom protect my tongue; may he whom Bharata venerates protect my throat. May the bearer of divine weapons protect my shoulders; may the breaker of Shiva's bow protect my arms.

करौ सीतापतिः पातु हृदयं जामदग्न्यजित् ।
मध्यं पातु खरध्वंसी नाभिं जाम्बवदाश्रयः ॥
May Sita's lord protect my hands; may the conqueror of Parashurama protect my heart. May the destroyer of Khara guard my waist; may the refuge of Jambavan protect my navel.

सुग्रीवेशः कटिं पातु सक्थिनी हनुमत्प्रभुः ।
जानुनी सेतुकृत् पातु जङ्घे दशमुखान्तकः ॥
May Sugriva's lord protect my hips; may Hanuman's master protect my thighs. May the builder of the bridge protect my knees; may the slayer of the ten-headed one guard my shanks.

गुल्फौ विभीषणश्रीदः पादौ लक्ष्मणपूर्वजः ।
अहोरात्रावशेषाङ्गान् पातु रामोऽखिलेश्वरः ॥
May the bestower of glory on Vibhishana protect my ankles; may Lakshmana's elder protect my feet. May Rama, lord of all, protect the remaining limbs not named, through the day and through the night.

एतां रामबलोपेतां रक्षां यः सुकृती पठेत् ।
स चिरायुः सुखी पुत्री विजयी विनयी भवेत् ॥
The person of merit who recites this protection prayer, empowered by the strength of Rama, becomes long-lived, happy, blessed with children, victorious, and virtuous in conduct.

पातालभूतलव्योम चारिणश्छद्मचारिणः ।
न द्रष्टुमपि शक्तास्ते रक्षितं रामनामभिः ॥
Those who move through the underworld, the earth, and the sky — those who travel in disguise — cannot even look upon one who is protected by the names of Rama.

रामेति रामभद्रेति रामचन्द्रेति वा स्मरन् ।
नरो न लिप्यते पापैर्भुक्तिं मुक्तिं च विन्दति ॥
Remembering 'Rama,' 'Ramabhadra,' or 'Ramachandra' — the person is not touched by sins and attains both enjoyment in this world and liberation beyond it.

जगज्जेत्रैकमन्त्रेण रामनाम्नाभिरक्षितम् ।
यः कण्ठे धारयेत्तस्य करस्थाः सर्वसिद्धयः ॥
Protected by the name of Rama — the single mantra that conquers the entire world — whoever wears it at the throat holds all the perfections in the palm of their hand.

वज्रपञ्जरनामेदं यो रामकवचं स्मरेत् ।
अव्याहताज्ञः सर्वत्र लभते जयमङ्गलम् ॥
Whoever remembers this Ram Kavacham — named the Vajra Cage, the indestructible armour — becomes one whose command cannot be opposed and everywhere attains victory and auspiciousness.

आदिष्टवान् यथा स्वप्ने रामरक्षामिमां हरः ।
तथा लिखितवान् प्रातः प्रबुद्धो बुधकौशिकः ॥
Just as Hara (Shiva) instructed him this Ram Raksha in a dream, so Budhakausika wrote it down upon awakening in the morning.

आरामः कल्पवृक्षाणां विरामः सकलापदाम् ।
अभिरामस्त्रिलोकानां रामः श्रीमान् स नः प्रभुः ॥
He is the garden of all wish-fulfilling trees, the cessation of every adversity, the delight of all three worlds — that glorious Rama is our Lord.

तरुणौ रूपसम्पन्नौ सुकुमारौ महाबलौ ।
पुण्डरीकविशालाक्षौ चीरकृष्णाजिनाम्बरौ ॥
They are young, endowed with beauty, delicate and supremely powerful — with wide lotus-like eyes, wearing garments of bark and black antelope skin.

फलमूलाशिनौ दान्तौ तापसौ ब्रह्मचारिणौ ।
पुत्रौ दशरथस्यैतौ भ्रातरौ रामलक्ष्मणौ ॥
They live on fruits and roots, self-controlled ascetics, celibate — these two, the sons of Dasharatha, are the brothers Rama and Lakshmana.

शरण्यौ सर्वसत्त्वानां श्रेष्ठौ सर्वधनुष्मताम् ।
रक्षःकुलनिहन्तारौ त्रायेतां नो रघूत्तमौ ॥
The refuge of all beings, the foremost of all wielders of the bow, the destroyers of the race of demons — may these two best of the Raghu clan protect us.
21
आत्तसज्जधनुषा विषुस्पृशा वक्षया शुगनिषङ्गसङ्गिनौ ।
रक्षणाय मम रामलक्ष्मणावग्रतः पथि सदैव गच्छताम् ॥
With bows strung and ready, fingers on the bowstrings, quivers at their sides — may Rama and Lakshmana, for my protection, always walk before me on the path.

सन्नद्धः कवची खड्गी चापबाणधरो युवा ।
गच्छन् मनोरथान्नश्यन् रामः पातु स लक्ष्मणः ॥
Armoured, bearing sword, holding bow and arrow, youthful, striding forward, destroying the obstacles of desire — may that Rama, with Lakshmana, protect us.

रामो दाशरथिः शूरो लक्ष्मणानुचरो बली ।
काकुत्स्थः पुरुषः पूर्णः कौसल्येयो रघूत्तमः ॥
Rama, son of Dasharatha, heroic, with Lakshmana in attendance, mighty; of the Kakutstha lineage, the perfect man, Kaushalya's son, the best of the Raghu clan —

वेदान्तवेद्यो यज्ञेशः पुराणपुरुषोत्तमः ।
जानकीवल्लभः श्रीमान् अप्रमेयपराक्रमः ॥
Known through Vedanta, lord of sacrifice, the Puranic Purushottama — the beloved of Janaki, glorious, of immeasurable prowess.

हरिर्मर्त्यः प्रभुः साक्षात् सर्वेषां भाग्यसम्भवः ।
रामो राजीवनयनः सर्वेषां शरणाश्रयः ॥
Hari himself appeared as a mortal, the direct Lord, the source of fortune for all. Rama of the lotus eyes is the shelter and refuge of all.

आपदामपहर्तारं दातारं सर्वसम्पदाम् ।
लोकाभिरामं श्रीरामं भूयो भूयो नमाम्यहम् ॥
The remover of calamities, the bestower of all prosperity, the delight of the worlds — I bow again and again to Shri Rama.
27
भर्जनं भवबीजानाम् अर्जनं सुखसम्पदाम् ।
तर्जनं यमदूतानां राम रामेति गर्जनम् ॥
The roar of 'Rama! Rama!' — burning away the seeds of worldly bondage, earning happiness and prosperity, making the messengers of Yama tremble with terror.

मनोजवं मारुततुल्यवेगं जितेन्द्रियं बुद्धिमतां वरिष्ठम् ।
वातात्मजं वानरयूथमुख्यं श्रीरामदूतं शरणं प्रपद्ये ॥
Swift as thought, fast as the wind, with mastered senses, foremost among the wise — I take refuge in the son of Vayu, the chief of the monkey hosts, the messenger of Shri Rama.

कूजन्तं राम रामेति मधुरं मधुराक्षरम् ।
आरुह्य कविताशाखां वन्दे वाल्मीकिकोकिलम् ॥
Cooing 'Rama, Rama' in sweet, melodious syllables, perched on the branch of poetry — I salute Valmiki, the cuckoo of the Ramayana.

आपदामपहर्तारं दातारं सर्वसम्पदाम् ।
ग्रहनक्षत्रशान्त्यर्थं रामं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥
I bow to Rama — the remover of calamities, bestower of all prosperity — for the pacification of the planets and nakshatras.
31
सर्वदा सर्वकार्येषु नास्ति तेषां मङ्गलम् ।
येषां हृदिस्थो भगवान् मङ्गलायतनो हरिः ॥
There is never any lack of auspiciousness in all undertakings at all times for those in whose hearts dwells the Lord Hari, the abode of all good fortune.

तदेव लग्नं सुदिनं तदेव ताराबलं चन्द्रबलं तदेव ।
विद्याबलं दैवबलं तदेव लक्ष्मीपते तेऽङ्घ्रियुगं स्मरामि ॥
That very moment is the auspicious lagna, that very day is propitious — the strength of stars and Moon is present then, the power of wisdom and divine grace is there — O Lord of Lakshmi, I remember your two feet.
33
रामं दूर्वादलश्यामं पद्माक्षं पीतवाससम् ।
स्तुवन्ति नामभिर्दिव्यैर्न ते संसारिणो नराः ॥
Those who praise with divine names Rama — dark as a blade of dūrvā grass, with lotus eyes, wearing yellow garments — those people do not remain bound to the cycle of rebirth.

रामं लक्ष्मणपूर्वजं रघुवरं सीतापतिं सुन्दरं काकुत्स्थं करुणार्णवं गुणनिधिं विप्रप्रियं धार्मिकम् ।
राजेन्द्रं सत्यसन्धं दशरथतनयं श्यामलं शान्तमूर्तिं वन्दे लोकाभिरामं रघुकुलतिलकं राघवं रावणारिम् ॥
I salute Rama — Lakshmana's elder, best of the Raghu clan, Sita's lord, beautiful; of the Kakutstha line, an ocean of compassion, a treasury of virtues, beloved of the brahmins, righteous; king of kings, true to his word, Dasharatha's son, dark-hued, of peaceful form — the delight of worlds, the jewel of the Raghu line, Raghava, the enemy of Ravana.

रामाय रामभद्राय रामचन्द्राय वेधसे ।
रघुनाथाय नाथाय सीतायाः पतये नमः ॥
Salutation to Rama, to Ramabhadra, to Ramachandra, to the Creator; to the lord of the Raghu line, to the Lord, to the husband of Sita.

श्री राम राम रघुनन्दन राम राम श्री राम राम भरताग्रज राम राम ।
श्री राम राम रणकर्कश राम राम श्री राम राम शरणं भव राम राम ॥
Shri Rama, Rama — O Raghu's joy, Rama, Rama. Shri Rama, Rama — O Bharata's elder, Rama, Rama. Shri Rama, Rama — O fierce one in battle, Rama, Rama. Shri Rama, Rama — be my refuge, Rama, Rama.

इत्येतानि जपेन्नित्यं मद्भक्तः श्रद्धयान्वितः ।
अश्वमेधाधिकं पुण्यं सम्प्राप्नोति न संशयः ॥
The devotee who recites these daily with faith and devotion attains merit exceeding that of the Ashvamedha sacrifice — there is no doubt about this.
38
रामं दशरथं जानकीं लक्ष्मणं रघुनन्दनम् ।
एकैकस्य तु नामस्य सर्वपापं प्रणश्यति ॥
Rama, Dasharatha, Janaki, Lakshmana, Raghu's joy — by each single name among these, every sin is destroyed.
